Signumfunctie
Wij moeten zelfstudie doen over speciale functies en ik heb een probleem met vergelijkingen met signumfuncties. Hoe los ik een dergelijke vergelijking op in R?

sign x = 1 als x>0, sign x = -1 als x<0 en sign x = 0 als x = 0. Ga nu eens na wat er voor x geldt als sign(1-x2) -1, 0 of 1 is en doe hetzelfde voor sign(x-3). Kijk vervolgens eens hoe je x precies zo kiest dat sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3)≥-2.

Voor x<-1 en x>1 geldt dat sign(1-x2) = -1. Ga na dat voor x<-1 geldt dat sign(x-3) = -1, dus dat dat sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3) = -3. We kunnen x<-1 dus vast uitsluiten. Voor x>1 geldt dat sign(1-x2) = 1. Omdat sign(x-3) minimaal -1 en maximaal 1 is betekent dit dat voor x>1 in ieder geval aan sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3)≥-2 voldaan wordt. Voor x= -1 geldt dat sign(1-x2) = 0 en sign(x-3) = -1, dus voor x in [-1,1] is in ieder geval aan sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3)≥-2 voldaan. We zien dus dat voor x≥-1 aan sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3)≥-2 voldaan wordt.

Aanvullende correctie: voor x>1 en x<3 geldt eveneens dat sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3) = -3. Er wordt dus alleen aan sign(1-x2)+2sign(x-3)≥-2 voldaan als x in [-1,1] ligt of als x>3.
