In de Uraniumserie wordt er een isotoop geproduceerd namelijk Pb-210. Het isotoop Pb-210 straalt een lage beta straling uit die bijna niet te meten valt in sediment. Pb-210 straalt naast deze beta straling ook nog eens gamma foton uit. Dit kan je meten doormiddel van gammaspectometrie!

Doormiddel van de halfwaardetijd van Pb-210, veranderd de Pb-210 eerst in Bi-210 die maar een halfwaardetijd heeft van een paar dagen. Hierna veranderd het Bi-210 in Po-210 (wat een halfwaardetijd heeft van 138 dagen) en daarna in Po-209. Deze Po-209 straalt een alfastraling uit. En nu komt mijn vraag: Hoe meet ik de alfastraling van de Po-209, bestaat er zoiets als alfaspectometrie?? En kan iemand mij het principe uitlegen van de alfaspecotmeter als deze bestaat?
