Re: [Folding] Folding@home nieuws

The forum at foldingforum.org is down. We are in contact with the hosting company and they are working on it. We don't have an ETA from them, but I hope this will be resolved later today.Folding@home servers are up and... (...)

Re: [Folding] Folding@home nieuws

Engineers at NVIDIA (notably Scott LeGrand) have come up with a theory for the EUE's seen in core 1.15 (and a few others in the 1.15 to 1.18 range) on certain hardware. They found that this core had code optimizations... (...)

Re: [Folding] Folding@home nieuws

The main AS is down. The two consequences of this are that the secondary AS is handling all of the load and the main stats update have been suspended until this is resolved. The points are being kept locally on... (...)

Re: [Folding] Folding@home nieuws

We got the Main AS back up and all looks good on that box. The main systems will take some time to get completely back in order (say a couple of hours), but it's looking good so far. (...)

We have another paper that came out recently (paper #60 at http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers). This one describes the PS3 client in FAH:Accelerating Molecular Dynamic Simulation on the Cell processor and PlayStation 3 by Edgar Luttmann, Daniel L. Ensign, Vishal Vaidyanathan, Mike Houston,... We have switched the stats (points) update to occur every 3 hours instead of every 2 hours. The reasoning here is that it takes about an hour to update the stats, and so doing this every 2 hours means that... (...)

We have made some updates to the stats code to make it faster and more useful. The recent changes speed web page creation in general and also cache team pages such that they can be read during stats updates. This... (...)

I've talked about OpenMM before -- it's the library we're releasing to allow other scientists to take advantage of the great speed up found in our GPU code. We're now having a workshop to describe it. Here is the announcement... (...)

We've made a code change in the two main assignment servers (assign.stanford.edu & assign2.stanford.edu -- but no the PS3 or GPU AS's) to handle a potential problem people have been having with getting through firewalls. For those who are very... (...)

It's still early (since this paper was just accepted), but I wanted to give FAH donors a heads up on our work on Huntington's Disease aggregation, which is just about to come out in the Journal of Molecular Biology. I'll... (...)

Re: [Folding] Folding@home nieuws

Based on our FLOP estimate (see http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=osstats), Folding@home has passed the 5 petaflop mark recently. To put it in context, traditional supercomputers have just broken the 1 petaflop mark, and even that level of performance is very challenging to aggregate.... (...)
