The corn utensils are made from polylactic acid, a derivative of corn and they have the look and feel of plastic. The color is translucent off-white and the utensils have a shelf life of 5 years. Unlike wheat utensils, the corn is not recommended for very hot items and should be looked at as a cheaper alternative to wheat utensils when using for cold food items. They are totally biodegradable and in the summer, they will break down in your compost pile when the temperature reaches 135 degrees.
