How effective are new trees in offsetting the carbon footprint? A new study suggests that the location of the new trees is an important factor when considering such carbon offset projects. Planting and preserving forests in the tropics is more likely to slow down global warming.

Zou het niet kunnen dat het verschil niet in het albedo-effect zit, maar in het gebrek aan de andere effecten bij bebossing dichter bij de polen? Minder zonlicht zorgt daar in ieder geval voor minder CO2 opname, dat zou ongeveer verband moeten houden met de absorptie van zonnestraling als gevolg van albedo. Maar misschien is het effect op wolkenformatie gewoon kleiner naarmate je verder van de evenaar komt?

ook een gokje wagen. De zon aan de polen zal de aarde nu niet te veel opwarmen. Ze valt schuin in, zodat veel gereflecteerd wordt. Een (vermoed ik) kleiner effect is dat de stralen een grotere weg doorheen de atmosfeer afleggen. Als je daar nu bomen gaat plaatsen, gaat de absorptie procentueel veel meer toenemen. Je zou eenzelfde redenering idd kunnen voeren tov het ijs, maar het zou gek zijn moesten ze bomen in het ijs kunnen planten.
